5 ways to be more likeable, as per psychology

August 09, 2025 by admin in Mind & Body

Being a well-liked person is a feat that not everyone can achieve. Psychologists agree that well-liked people experience more happiness, trust and reciprocity in their interpersonal relationships. If you are looking to become more influential and strengthen your bond with other people, here are 5 psychology tips for you to become a more likeable person:

Compliment people’s strengths

Receiving positive compliments about their actions and personality boosts people’s self-esteem and makes them feel appreciated. When you compliment people, it shows that you notice and appreciate their good qualities.

The next time you notice an admirable quality about a friend, make sure to compliment them. Or when you notice someone doing a good job, make sure to let them know. Giving people genuine compliments will make them like being around you and foster a stronger relationship.

Remember and bring up things

Make an effort to remember the things that people tell you. When you remember details and ask people about their lives, they feel important and appreciated. Simply bring up things by saying, “The last time we met, you mentioned…”

Showing genuine interest in people’s lives makes them feel at ease around you. Remembering details that are important to people makes you a more trustworthy and likeable person.

Give credit when it is due

Give people credit when they are helpful and don’t be shy from admitting when you are wrong. Saying something as simple as “Thank you for the advice” or “You were right about this” indicates that you are willing to accept your mistakes and appreciate people’s insights.

When you appreciate someone for their help and advice, it shows authenticity and makes them feel appreciated. This will increase your likability by creating mutual trust and support.

Ask for people’s opinions

Another way of being liked by people is by asking for their opinions and expertise. Seeking out people’s opinions makes them feel respected and signals that you value what they have to say. The next time you go out with someone, include them in your decision-making process.

Asking for people’s opinions also indicates that you appreciate their knowledge about a particular topic or object. When people are made to feel important, they start to see you as a likeable and trustworthy person.

Let people know you were thinking about them

The next time you are thinking about a friend or a colleague, take a moment to reach out to them. Something as simple as “I was just thinking about you. How have you been?” signals that you value them and make an effort to maintain your relationship.

Reassuring people about their significance in your life will strengthen your bond and make them value you reciprocally. Expressing interest in someone’s life makes them feel more connected to you.
