If getting fit, losing weight fast or burning calories is the goal you are aiming for, then be prepared to get down the gym and prepare for high-intensity workouts. Unfortunately, just turning up down at the gym and not breaking into a sweat while you gently walk fast on a treadmill or ride a static bike is not going to go far if you are looking to lose weight, increase fitness and lose that spare tyre around your waist. To achieve the best results when working out you must be prepared to sweat and push yourself to a limit that will feel a bit painful, especially at first. But it’s important not to overdo it (or underdo it) to achieve the right results more quickly. High intensity workouts don’t just burn calories, they torch them. If your cardio treadmill machine has one of those electronic calorie burning read outs which counts burned calories, try this little trick: gently jog on a treadmill at 4.2 mph for a period of two minutes, and once you reach the end of that two minutes, take a note of the calories burned so far. Now try the same exercise (again for two minutes) but […]

It shouldn’t be a surprise by now that the term ‘health’ isn’t just associated with your physical looks and well-being, but also rather how happy and satisfied you are on the mental side of things. Stress, depression, and anxiety are just some of the things that are plaguing our minds today, mostly due to lack of human contact. If you are among those unfortunate who are affected by these symptoms too, then having an adorable pet with whom you can play with can be an excellent remedy for this problem. With that being said, let’s see some of those pets: 1. Dog: It’s kind of a no-brainer that if you are looking for having someone who is loyal to you, will play with you, and also is smart enough to learn some tricks, then a dog is the pet that you are looking for. There is just a ton of varieties out there, all of which retain the same qualities of a dog, but it’s difficult to recommend anything which everyone prefers since each among us has a different preference. All in all, go for a dog if you are looking for an adorable pet, and make your choice of […]

Things happen in life that is out of our control. Things happen in life that is in our control too. And too many times, we often will blame ourselves and keep apologizing to others. When we feel like we are at fault, we aren’t happy with ourselves and sometimes, there really isn’t a reason for us to do that. Here are 12 things that you don’t need to be taking the blame for. The sooner you quit this bad habit, the happier your life will be: 1. Your Emotions. Do you cry easily or become too concerned about things that matter to you? When it comes to a person’s feelings, there is no such thing as “too much”. That’s who you are. 2. Handling Your Emotions. Find healthy ways to handle your emotion without feeling guilty. Write a letter then toss it or put it up and reread it later. Slam a door. Take a walk without your phone. Find an outlet and do what you need to do to get your emotions out and clear your head. 3. Rejection. If somebody doesn’t like your new hairdo or agree with you politics, that isn’t your fault. And opinion is just […]

It goes without saying that most of the food that a majority of us each everyday has something ordered from a fast food or restaurant, or is one of those ‘easy to make’ products if you are cooking the food at your home. Whatever the case, most of it (from the fast-food joints anyway) is actually very unhealthy and is popularly known as ‘junk food’. If you are among those people who eat this kind of food every day, then it’s about time that you change, and these unhealthy chemicals found in the food you eat will be enough to change your mind: 1. Trans-Fats: Almost any unhealthy packaged food that you can imagine has trans-fats in it. French fries and your favorite Doritos Nachos are just some examples of them. Not only do they increase your levels of bad cholesterol or LDL cholesterol, they also decrease the level of good or HDL cholesterol, something which puts an enormous amount of strain on your arteries. Speaking of arteries, trans fats are known to be even worse than saturated fats, causing more than 50,000 premature heart attacks by clogging the, you guessed it, arteries. 2. Salt: Everything that’s consumed in moderation […]

Let’s face it. Despite the life changing benefits of exercising, many of us still see physical activity as a chore. The myriad of excuses for not doing a workout regularly include not having the time for it, that it is only for the young and athletic and it is challenging and painful. Motivation for exercise seems difficult for those persons who have these excuses for not working out. However there are ways to start exercising without it feeling like part of life chores. Small steps: When you haven’t exercise for a while, setting yourself massive goals for example running a 5 minute mile or exercising every day for one hour can leave you feeling dejected if you do not achieve your objective. Do activities you enjoy: Any movement counts. This includes walking around in the mall window shopping, gardening, walking your dog or riding a bike to do an errand. If you are unsure as to what you might enjoy, you could experiment with different activities. Even a home improvement project could be a form […]

Sometimes we forget about the most important things in life. Often we neglect the mind, body and spirit and wonder why we feel so down and depressed. Amazingly, a low mood can be lifted by doing something so simple. Nourishing your psyche with exercise, mental health and bodily functions that improve our well-being is simply not performed enough. Often it is the smallest things like breathing properly that we overlook. Science has proven that to get that healthy, lean body you want, your best plan of action to have a combination of cardio training AND weight lifting. So if you’ve only been doing the elliptical or the treadmill, it isn’t going to get you where you want with that chiseled, defined, lean look. And there isn’t a set amount of either one that will do the trick either. You will need to get both cardio and weights at the same time, sweating at them both at the same time. Allowing to circumstantial evidence and scientific findings, your body will benefit more to first train with weights because there is sufficient energy in your body for the challenging repetitions. One study found that those who do weight training and no cardio first, were able to complete the reps successfully. And those who did cardio training first were not able to complete their weight lifting session successfully. Cardio Fatigues The Muscles One reason this happened is because cardio will fatigue your muscle, which is what you need for weight training. If you muscles are fatigued, then your energy levels and formation will suffer. Now that isn’t saying that bike time or ellipticals […]
