by admin in Workouts 0 comments
Even the most dedicated enthusiasts can have a hard time during winter to go out for that jog or workout compared to when it’s warm and sunny outside. This season can indeed be very disruptive to people’s exercise routines. The winter season not only makes us lazy but further slows down weight loss due to a reduction in sweating. However, if your goal is to remove as many obstacles as possible and make small changes that can make staying active easier until warmer times arrive then follow these tips on how to motivate yourself to stay active when the weather gets colder.   Stretching indoors Practising stretching inside can help increase your body temperature before you step out to work out. This helps reduce feeling cold as soon as you leave your house. Do some brisk stretches before wearing your cold-weather clothing.   Right activewear In a humid climate, people opt for cotton clothing as it absorbs moisture (sweat). But in winter, you want to avoid that because if your clothes are soaked in moisture, it will leave you feeling colder. So go for sports clothing made from cotton-mix or synthetic fibre since they soak 50 per cent less moisture […]

by admin in Workouts 0 comments
In my opinion, taking time for yourself to work out is one of the best forms of self-care. But if you’re not sure what to do in the gym, it might not feel all that rejuvenating. Instead of letting stress creep up as you scan the gym to figure out which machines are free and if you can snag a squat rack, I recommend coming in with a plan of action. Whether you’re following a workout plan or showing up already knowing what you’re going to do for the day, preparation makes your workouts a lot smoother — and that’s where this full-body gym workout comes in. This full-body workout for the gym (which you can also do at home, with the right equipment) consists of just eight moves but truly works your whole body. You’ll be targeting your shoulders, biceps, back, glutes, quads, and core with these moves, and the whole thing shouldn’t take more than 45 minutes, which is about how long you might spend wandering around the gym looking for open equipment. All you need to get this full-body gym workout done are some dumbbells, a workout bench or step, and a stability ball — but just […]

Such a person is known by a lot of terms such as rookie, beginner, and even the insulting term ‘noob’. But, if you want to set yourself apart from these terms and rather be considered as a ‘promising beginner’, here are some common mistakes you should never make when going to the gym: 1. Guessing: One of the best ways to go viral is to just guess how a piece of equipment works. You may end up looking like the funniest person in the entire gym. Yes, we also understand that always bugging your gym trainer every time you can’t understand how something works seems awful, but the way things go in the gym are a bit different. Here, the experts are more than happy to help you get to your fitness goals provided that you show promise. So, heed their advice any time you are confused. 2. Magical Supplements: Supplements, as the word suggests, is something which is supplementary to your current diet, and not a replacement. Be it the amino acids, proteins, mass gainer or any other […]

9 Things You Didn’t Know About Training Right for Your Body Type

by admin in Workouts 0 comments
Take a look around your gym, and you’ll probably see people who are doing the same cardio routines, day after day, without gaining noticeable improvements in their body shape or composition. Maybe you’re one of them. When, every once in a while, someone shows up with an enviously sculpted body, you may wonder: What is she doing differently? The answer is: She’s probably training the right way for her body type — something 70 percent of people are not doing, according to Phil Catudal, a celebrated National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM)–certified personal trainer in the Los Angeles area. “Each of us has a genetic and physiological design that determines our body type, or somatotype, and different body types have different responses to certain fitness programs,” says Catudal, a global health coach and the author of Just Your Type: The Ultimate Guide to Eating and Training Right for Your Body Type. (Full disclosure: I wrote the book with him from which the following tips come.) So it could be that you or the men and women you see at the gym are performing the right exercises the right way — but they’re optimal for someone else’s body type, not yours. […]

Should You Work Out When You’re Sore?

by admin in Workouts 0 comments
Fitness pros weigh in on whether working out when you’re sore is a good or bad thing — plus, what you can do to recover.   Feeling very sore after a workout can seem like a badge of honor; it’s a reminder that you got up in the morning to make time to exercise, and that you really pushed yourself. But if you’re still feeling the burn the next day, should you work out while sore anyway? While some soreness after a new or intense workout is totally natural, a “no pain, no gain” mindset can have serious consequences if you ignore signs that your body needs a rest. Yes, the work you do in the gym is important, but it’s just as crucial to give your body sufficient time to recover in between workouts, according to Kirk Campbell, M.D., a sports medicine surgeon and assistant professor of orthopedic surgery at NYU Langone Medical Center. While you may be tempted to power through, there’s great danger in not allowing ample time for your muscles to rest, explains Leesa Galatz, M.D., chair of the orthopedic department at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. Since the soreness you’re experiencing is […]

Don’t overexert yourself at gym

by admin in Workouts 0 comments
A35-year-old woman died while lifting weights in a gym recently. This shocked fitness enthusiasts. BM spoke with experts to know the do’s and don’ts of exercising. Dr Divya Marina Fernandes, consultant, interventional cardiology and Heart Failure Specialist, Aster RV Hospital said: “We see athletes collapsing in gyms or on fields. This could mainly be attributed to conditions like hypertrophic cardiomyopathy and arrhythmias (irregular heart rhythm).” She advised getting a treadmill test before starting endurance training even for those under 40. She said basic life-saving skills like CPR are good to know. “Focus on building stamina and strength gradually and listen to your body. Take adequate rest when necessary. Avoid supplements unless they have been tested and certified by reputed bodies,” she added. A bad diet and other poor lifestyle habits are common among youngsters. Many are into performance-enhancing drugs and unscientifically marketed supplements. To add to it, heavy exercise without heeding to early symptoms is terrible for health. Trainers need to be aware of sports medicine and the risks of over exercising, said Dr Deepak Krishnamurthy, senior interventional cardiologist, Sakra World Hospital. A family history of heart attacks at a young age, symptoms like chest pain or uneasiness or effort […]
