Negative Effects of Electronic Devices

March 16, 2023 by kevin in Healthy Living

In the 21st century, thanks to the advent of GUI (Graphical User Interface) based OS, we now have a multitude of devices, all of which we are hooked to more than ever. Be it your social network, content creation, or even productivity, electronic devices have become indispensable. Sure it has a lot of advantages from getting your done work much faster, easier, a better method of communication from those away from us, and much more, there are still many disadvantages of using these devices, which is what we aim to cover:

1. Obesity: Though using technology and being obese isn’t a cause-and-effect relationship, the more time you spend on tech devices, the less time you spend on exercising and staying fit. And not exercising properly will obviously not burn the fat stored in your body, thus making you obese.

2. Depression: Thanks to the lack of human contact coupled with an unhealthy lifestyle, technology is one of the ways in which a person can undergo depression. In fact, the use of antidepressants is also on the rise, with more and more people trying to deal with something, which can be easily healed by minimizing the use of technology in the form of pills.

3. Sleep Cycle: Just one more level of candy crush is what has led to countless numbers of people staying up late at night and then waking up early during the morning due to work. Obviously, not having enough sleep can cause us to be extremely tired and not being able to focus at work. Long story short: the increased usage has led to people having a completely messed up sleep cycle which isn’t good for health.

4. Posture: This is rather more specific to the smartphones that we have today. Constantly using those phones to update our twitter or change our profile picture on Facebook requires you to look down at your phone. Sure, 5 minutes of staying in this position won’t make a difference, but bring the number from 5 minutes to an hour every day and you can seriously see some damage and change in our posture.

5. Less attention span: With the social networks and other news applications constantly updating and filling us with newer information by the minute, it has become almost impossible to let any one of them sink in so we can understand it to its full extent, thus causing a decreased attention span. In fact, studies have shown that the attention span of people has decreased from 12 to 5 minutes since the release of technology.
