1. Psychological tricks to lose weight
Losing weight is hard and maintaining a healthy weight once you’ve got there is even harder. While we mostly think that weight loss is all about eating a calorie-deficit diet and sweating out in the gym, it all actually starts and ends with your mindset. With the right and focused mindset, you will do all these necessary activities to lose weight. However, with a distracted mind, you may go on a diet for three days, only to chomp on chocolate chip cookies the next day. So what do we do to trick, or in a way, train our mind to lose weight for real? Read on to find out!
2. Build a streak
One of the best tricks to lose weight is to be consistent in whatever workout or diet plan you choose to stick to. Just like building streaks on social media, create a health streak for yourself and see how long you can go on.
Note that once your streak breaks, and it will, do not spiral and justify to yourself that now that you have eaten one chocolate and broken your streak, you can eat five more since nothing matters now. The truth is, there is a lot of difference between the two and all you need to do is accept your mistake, don’t take it too seriously and just jump onto creating a stronger and longer streak of healthy lifestyle choices.
3. Break unhealthy food routine
We all usually hate the idea of falling into a routine but have you noticed that unhealthy food routines such as eating ice-cream after work or ordering pizza on a Friday are a kind of routine we actually look forward to.
In order to lose weight, we need to let go of rewarding ourselves with food. This can be difficult to begin with as we are so used to uplifting our mood with cheesy fries or chocolate shake that you won’t know what to do the next time you are feeling off. But once you are conscious of this pattern, you can slowly and steadily teach your mind to look for other happy activities like going for a walk, playing a sport or talking to a friend; which will make you feel better without increasing your weight.
4. Picture your decisions how they’ll reflect in future
Most people usually make the majority of their decisions based on how they feel about them at that very moment. However, guilt and regret creep in the future and we don’t feel good anymore about the choices we made earlier. This is especially true for binge eating or overeating or basically eating even when you were not hungry. A trick to tackle this is to imagine how you feel about this decision in the future. Temptation is fleeting but healthy choices will reflect positively in the long-run and your future self will thank you for making them.
5. Be realistic with your goals
Mostly when people decide to lose weight, they make these to-good-to-be true plans and when they fail, which they mostly do, they give it up altogether. If you truly want to shed weight, you have to give yourself lots of time to actually see results that work for the long run. Losing weight with a healthy diet and regular workouts is much more than losing weight; it’s choosing to make healthy choices for your body day after day. Weight loss will happen. But you and your choices are not gonna change overnight and neither should you expect any such magic to happen. Be patient and kind to yourself, observe your body, and also know that your health is more important than the number on your weighing scale.
