Could a banana before bed be the key to a good night’s sleep?

by admin in Healthy Living 0 comments
Eating fruit before bed tops the list of tips for getting a better quality sleep. Are you aware of the other key lifestyle choices that could help you drift off?   Eating a banana for dinner could be the key to a good night’s sleep, according to a charity specialising in sleep support. The Sleep Charity has released its top five tips for how to get better quality sleep in 2024, with fruit consumption shortly before bed topping the list. It says bananas in particular can help you drift off due to their high level of magnesium and potassium, which help to relax muscles. Bananas also contain the amino acid tryptophan, which stimulates production of brain-calming hormones, it adds. Fruit also encourages the production of melatonin, a hormone that occurs naturally in your body which plays a big role in how well you sleep. Grapes, tart cherries and strawberries are the best sources of melatonin among fruits, according to a study published in a special issue of Antioxidants in Health and Disease. Fruit isn’t the only food that can earn you a well-needed rest. The Sleep Charity also recommends almonds, fish, whole-grain cereals and oatcakes with cheese to help you […]

How to Master the Dumbbell Chest Fly

by admin in Workouts 0 comments
Get those chest gains without getting yourself hurt or smashing up your dumbbells. Chest training is so important to a certain type of gym bro that they’ll dedicate every single Monday to the endeavor, posting up at bench press stations around the nation to pump through round after round of reps to build a barrel shape at the top of their torso. For far too many of these trainees, however, their International Chest Day exploits start and end with that bench press session. They might be focused on the number of plates on the bar, but unless they have a powerlifting competition in their sights, they should be even more fixated on the muscle contraction at the top of the lift. That’s where they’ll have the most success in building their chest muscles, and there are other exercises, like the bench dumbbell fly, that will be much more effective for targeted growth. The goal of the dumbbell fly is to move in a slightly different way that you do during other chest-focused exercises like presses. When you perform a fly, you adduct the chest muscle, which means squeezing the pecs to move your arms inward toward the midline of your […]
