No gym, no equipment: 5 ways to lose weight and build muscle

September 28, 2023 by admin in Mind & Body

Journey to fitness

It is a well-established fact that fitness is essential for overall mental and physical well-being. Individual body shapes and metabolism rates differ, and diversity is the norm for human forms. The journey to fitness begins by making incremental improvements. One immediate change you can bring to your daily life that will pay huge dividends is exercise. By starting small but being consistent, combined with a balanced diet, you will notice and feel improvements in a few weeks.

In order to achieve a fit body and mind, you don’t need expensive and complicated equipment to work out. Here is the list of some methods you can get your heart pumping and the calories burning from today:

Dancing

Dancing is a great way to lose weight. Whether in a class or at home, pick a dance form that requires continuous movement like zumba, hip hop, Bollywood dance, salsa or aerobic dance and hit the floor. Indian classical dance can also be a good way to immerse yourself in culture while also working your way to fitness.

Brisk walking, running and jogging

These are great exercises and you can start it today itself. Here, no equipment is needed except comfortable sports shoes. Walking, especially on an inclined path, is a good workout. You can increase the speed of walking, wear ankle weights or walk greater distances to make this workout more challenging.

Strength training

Deepak Pal, Sports & Functional Nutritionist, SENS Clinic says, “Strength training or body weight exercises are resistance exercises where either equipment or your body weight are used as the resistance. Lifting heavy weights can improve metabolism even when you are at rest. One may use their own body weight, iron vessels as weights and resistance bands.”

Yoga

While the exercises listed above will help you burn fat, it is vital that we also mention yoga and pilates here. Activities such as yoga & pilates will not help you shed weight but are important to round off an exercise routine. Yoga improves strength, flexibility and mindfulness and pilates works your core muscles and helps improve posture while enhancing flexibility.

The takeaway

Remember that to gain weight, the calories you consume should exceed what you burn daily and for weight loss there has to be a calorie deficit. For both goals, the passage should be guided by what your body can take and what is feasible.
