Getting Back on the Wellness Train: 5 Tips for Success

by admin in Healthy Living 0 comments
The vacations are done, kids are back at school, and days are getting shorter again. It’s time to leave your summer behind and get back in the groove of fall fitness and health. I’ve had many people ask me recently how they can get back on the “wellness wagon.” Before you do anything, you must make a decision to do it. It’s that simple. If you let yourself have “just one more” splurge here or there, or wait until Labor Day or once school has been back a few weeks or whatever other excuse you have, you’ll keep pushing out the timeline to get started. Decide to do it and follow through. If it’s harder than you intended, fight for it. It might be hard, but that’s sort of the point. You’re changing from your summer behavior to your fall behavior. So, it’s a bit less, “Lunch Margaritas,” and a bit more “Noon Workout.” Change can be hard. Once you’ve made the decision to get yourself in gear again, decide what needs to be done. Do you need to overhaul your eating habits? Start working out again or more frequently? Cut back on alcohol? Reduce your caffeine intake? Perhaps it’s […]

by admin in Healthy Living 0 comments
The concept of work from home came amidst the pandemic but more businesses than ever before have adopted this style as a more permanent solution for their employees and businesses to adapt flexibility in working. Though the benefits of working from home far outweigh any downsides, one of the negative repercussions is the reduction in movement and physical activity for employees making you overweight. Here are 6 work from home exercises and ideas that help you stay active during your workday. i) Start your day with a walk Starting your day with a walk to achieve your 10,000 steps is a great way to boost your energy first thing in the morning and start your day by accomplishing one of the staples of health, fitness, and exercise. Depending on your schedule, you could also break it up and take smaller walks before, during, and after your work to stay physically active and really get your blood pumping and brain firing. ii) Stand during video and phone calls Sitting in a chair for eight hours straight is horrible for your back and posture, especially when you’re sitting at a kitchen table or on the couch. One of the best ways to […]

Five heatwave tips to stop swollen ankles and feet

by admin in Healthy Living 0 comments
The heat causes lots of problems to the human body Dehydration is not the only the thing that the sun can do to the human body. Swelling is a common side effect from the scorching heat. Hot weather can cause fluid to build up around the feet and ankles, making them look swollen and puffy. While this issue can be uncomfortable or unsightly, it will go away as your body cools down. Thankfully for sufferers, there are a few simple ways that you can reduce your chance of swelling in the summer heat, lead nutritionist Signe Svanfeldt has told the Express. He said: “Swollen feet and ankles due to hot weather is usually called heat edema, which is fluid ‘trapped’ in tissues which causes the swelling. “Being swollen for a short period of time is likely not to cause any major health implications, but if you experience swelling for a long period of time it can be due to other reasons such as an underlying disease. In this case, it might be worth contacting your health care professional.” Seven tips to avoid trapped fluid and swollen ankles 1. Skip the sunny beer garden and limit your alcohol consumption An ice-cold […]

7 nutrition tips to stay healthy in 2023

by admin in Healthy Living 0 comments
A new year has finally begun and everyone want to keep themselves fit and healthy throughout the year and make it a resolution. While many choose to stick to a balanced diet plan to keep themselves in shape, others take the resolve to hit the gym frequently and work on their bodies. Shifting an unhealthy lifestyle to a healthy one is a slow process and takes time and efforts. No crash diet or fitness fads can bring about a change overnight so it is well and wise to set realistic goals for yourself, as they are much easier and more practical to achieve.   Here are some diet tips that you must inculcate in your daily life to lead a healthy lifestyle:   Include fiber in your diet One action that will significantly improve your overall dietary pattern is swapping out low-fiber meals on your plate for naturally high-fiber alternatives. Foods like fruits, vegetables, whole grains, legumes, and nuts naturally contain dietary fiber in addition to vitamins, minerals, and advantageous phytonutrients. A diet rich in fiber is associated with a lower risk of heart attack or stroke, as well as a lower risk of acquiring diabetes, heart disease, and colon […]

10 Healthy Habits of Pro Athletes

by admin in Healthy Living 0 comments
Here are some easy, doable tips from pro athletes that you can use to look, feel, and perform your best every day, no matter what your baseline.   1. Start with a dynamic warm-up. Before tackling a high-intensity workout, five-time World Series champion Derek Jeter starts with calisthenics including jumping jacks, arm circles, pushups, lunges, and squats to warm up his muscles. While you may not need a lengthy cool-down post-workout, warm-ups are non-negotiable, because they help prevent injury, enhance performance, and can even stave off soreness. Ease into every fitness session with a few minutes of dynamic moves like Jeter’s.   2. Consider rest and recovery as important as the rest of your training. Three-time MLB All-Star and two-time MLB Home Run Champion Jose Bautista has to take every measure necessary to preserve his strength, and one crucial component of his training is rest. “My muscles get sore the next day if I don’t eat enough protein or drink enough water. Recovery time has a lot to do with diet,” he says.   3. Spend time fine-tuning your coordination. In his off-season workouts, Warriors point guard and 2015 MVP Steph Curry concentrates on “neuromuscular overload,” according to his trainer, […]

The Best Lifting Techniques to Move Heavy Stuff

by admin in Healthy Living 0 comments
Lifting heavy items should be done carefully in order to prevent injury. In fact, 38.5% of work-related musculoskeletal issues are related to back injury, with improper lifting being one of the main causes. Therefore, it’s important to learn proper lifting techniques to keep yourself safe at work and at home. This article discusses proper lifting techniques and common lifting problems, and provides useful tips. What is the best lifting technique to move something heavy? The best lifting technique is to squat down and use the strength of your legs — instead of your back — to lift the object off of the ground. That said, you should only lift items that you’re comfortable lifting. If you’re unsure, it’s best to ask another person for help or use other machinery (e.g., a lift).   What are the OSHA guidelines for lifting techniques? If you’ve decided that it’s safe to lift the item by yourself, you’ll want to follow the proper lifting technique guidelines outlined by Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA).   1. Plan ahead Before moving something heavy, it’s important to think and plan first. First, look at the item that you’re about to lift and ask yourself these questions: […]
